Flying the A400M Atlas – Sqn Ldr Bown (RAF) – Webinar

May 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

After the retirement of the Royal Air Force C-130J, the A400M Atlas had to rise quickly to meet the demand of United Kingdom defense. The Atlas has demonstrated its many virtues and met every challenge presented, but it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. As a European venture, the aircraft presents unique challenges in which every participating nation has a say and the engineering support is predominantly by civilian contractors. Please join us this month when Squadron Leader Chris Bowen, LXX Squadron, Royal Air Force Brize Norton, discusses the peaks and valleys of developing tactics on a new aircraft – especially one taking over from such a stalwart as the C-130 – while continuing to meet operational demands in an ever-changing world.

Sqn Ldr Chris Bowen – currently the Executive Officer of LXX Squadron – spent the previous two years as the UK’s A400M Contingent Operations Flight Commander. As a previous C-130J Tier 1 Operator, which encompasses what we would consider Special Operations, he witnessed the rapid rise of the A400M as it stepped up to meet the capability gap left after the retirement of the C-130J. As the UK’s on-point A400M Flight Commander for the last 12 months, he has led a variety of A400M discreet operations as well as the UK’s involvement in the humanitarian aid drops in Gaza, for which his team was just awarded the Firmin Sword of Peace.
